Scratchgravel Hills is Helena’s premier year-round riding and outdoor recreation area. Thanks to its well-drained geology, open slopes, and minimal snowfall, the trails remain dry and accessible nearly every month, making it a favorite destination for hikers, mountain bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

The area features a mix of old Jeep trails, historic mining roads, and singletrack paths, offering a diverse experience for riders of all skill levels. In 2022, the BLM released a final Recreation Management Plan to develop a cohesive multi-use trail system, including the creation of new trails, rehabilitation of existing paths, and even frisbee golf courses.
